The sales positions are hardly IT-related. I can't use the experince for good.

I did two kind of sales job in that priod: one was elctricity contract sales which is not IT related, the other was Bell Sympatico Internet Service and this is also hardly a related experence. I afraid putting these positions on resume will only downgrade its effctiveness.

I ever consider independent IT consultant as an option, which still need a reference to testify. This option may not be as effctive as a full-tim job because the employer may ask for a sample of your work(I did write some intersting software in this period, but I doubt that would be enough to for a serious consultant job).

    Hi,

I have been out of IT job for more than 2 years. Last IT job I had was a database developer. I had been working as a developer for 2 years in Toronto. After being laid off, I worked as a sals agent for almost 2 years. During the period, I kept learning new things in database and software developing and I obtained a DBA certification. Now, the economy seems to come back, demands for DBA and developer seem to be increasing. My dream is to go back to my carreer. The difficulty of doing this is the gap on my work history. I must make up the gap for me to send out a "marketable" resume. If you speak fluent english and are currently working in a IT company or department and and willing to help, please send an email to zclai@yahoo.com or call me at 416-666-8514. your help will be paid once I secure the job. If you have any advice about how to deal with this situation, please give some comments as well. Thanks in advance.
    • [1] The sale agent experience may actually help you to obtain an IT job if the it IT related. [2] You can always claim you were an independent IT consultant for that period.

    • I may be able to provide some help
      Mr. Lai:

I saw you postings on rolia.net. Your words show you are an honest person, and it seems tat I might offer some help regarding your situation.

I am a business executive at an U.S. financial institution. Also, I co-founded a new company last year in U.S., providing financial data management out-sourcing service. The new company has become cash-flow positive within three months of its operation. However, it is still a small new company. We do not have a web site yet. Plus, there are a number of internal & external IT/software development projects need to be done.

Anyway, if you are as good as you said, and are willing to take on a few small projects to prove yourself, I am willing to provide an excellent reference for you, either in the name of my old company or the new company. If you are interested, please email your resume to cto@hailudata.com , telling us which languages/dev skills you are good at. We can talk from there. Good luck!

      Sincerely,

      GS
