*77 was a direct link to state trooper info. (Send this to every woman (and person) you know; it may save a life.)

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛It was about 1:00 p.m. In the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher
that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light (!) on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was, and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.

I never knew about the *77 Cell Phone feature , did you? - but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe & quiet place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them ( I.e. Put on your hazard lights) or call *77 like Lauren did.

Too bad the cell phone companies don't generally give you this little bit of wonderful information.

Conversation with a service representative at ** Bell ** Mobility confirmed that *77 was a direct link to state trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about *77.

    • Hoax! See URL, btw, it was originally #77, and this was coming from the states where they have "state trooper", how could you get Bell Mobility to connect you to the states? LOL, don't spread this anymore.
      • I got this originially from my cousin in the States, and I believe there are Rolian readers living in the States, aren't there? Samaritanism is borderless. I forwarded this to my friends in China as well, just in case they may visit the States some day.
        Have yourself a bigger heart.
        • why not just dial 911 when emergency happens?
          • How about finding out the difference between 911 and *77, and letting us know?
            • why don't you read information from soimer's link? here is something to your question ... not all states respond to #77, actually just few of them does.
In Virginia, you can indeed call #77 on your cellular phone to report reckless or aggressive drivers to the Virginia State Police. Maryland is the only other state that offers the #77 service - a fact that reduces what little value this one had. Each state has an emergency number that you can call from your cellular phone for assistance, but it differs from state to state and not every one connects you to the state police. This site has a listing of cellular phone emergency numbers by state.
              • I did read that link, and I don't understand why we (women) cannot have one more CHOICE TO CALL other than 911, and why you guys have to make such a fuss about this one more choice. Forwarding this information or not is my choice, and
if you don't want it, just ignore it.

Yes, *77 does not operate in every single corner of the world, every single state/province, or every cell phone company, but this information can be helpful and useful to those who are living in a place where this cell phone feature works.

Just have yourself a more open mind.

No more replies to these meaningless responses from you guys. The end.
                • did you actually read it right? there is only one state uses the 77 number, and it happens to be #77 instead of *77 in the chain email. that is not another chance, that is just a fake number, lady!
    • 估计到那个时候,心里发毛,还有开车,还有打电话,我就只记得911了。
    • "state trooper " US or CA? if ZT, please mark it.
