TWO TRUE STORIES ABOUT RACISM (ZT)

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛TWO TRUE STORIES ABOUT RACISM

1) I'm sure many of you watched the recent taping of the Oprah Winfrey Show where her guest was Tommy Hilfiger. On the show, she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true.
Statements like"..."If I'd known African-Americans, Hispanics, Jewish and Asians would buy my clothes, I WOULD NOT have made them so nice. I wish these people would "NOT" buy my clothes, as they are ma de for upper class white people."

His answer to Oprah was a simple "YES."
Where after she immediately asked him to leave her show.

My suggestion? Don't buy your next shirt or perfume from Tommy Hilfiger.
Let's give him what he asked for. Let's not buy his clothes, let's put Him in a financial state where he himself will not be able to afford the ridiculous prices he puts on his clothes. BOYCOTT.

PLEASE SEND THIS MESSAGE TO ANYONE YOU KNOW. Then send it to the whole community that's not white people and see the result. We have to see the result of unity.

Let's find out if Non-whites really play such a small part in the world. Stop buying any range of their product, perfume, cosmetics, clothes, bags, etc.

2) This scene took place on a British Airways flight between Johannesburg and London .

A White woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man.
Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess. "Madam, what is the matter," the hostess asked. "You obviously do not see it then?" she responded. "You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat."
"Be calm please," the hostess replied. "Almost all the places on this Flight is taken.

I will go to see if another place is available." The Hostess went away and t hen came back a few minutes later. "Madam, Just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is a seat in the business class.
All the same, we still have one place in the first class." Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued: "It is not Usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting." She turned to the black guy, and said, "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in first class."

At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded.

Both the above are true stories. If You are against racism, please send this message to all your friends.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

Statement by the Principal and Vice-Principals regarding report of racist incident
      Wednesday November 21, 2007

A Queen’s faculty member has reported that a serious incident involving abusive language and physical intimidation occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 14, 2007. The faculty member describes being forced from a sidewalk by four male students wearing engineering jackets, who in addition subjected her to racial taunts.

We are deeply disturbed by the account of this incident, and especially concerned that members of the student community were apparently involved. An investigation is underway which has the full support of the University Administration.

We recognize that the vast majority of students and faculty across this institution, and in the Faculty of Applied Science in particular, are outraged by incidents of the sort described, and are committed to an inclusive campus where all members of our community are permitted the opportunity to pursue their academic goals in an environment not merely tolerant, but respectful and supportive as well. The evidence suggests, however, that we have substantial progress yet to make before that ideal can be realized. Progress is urgent and imperative. No member of the Queen’s community should again be subject to the kind of physical intimidation and racist abuse that has been described. The University is fully committed to this course, to bringing attention to racism and abusive behaviour wherever it occurs, and to taking firm action. We unequivocally state that this kind of behaviour has no place at Queen's University and we will use all judicial and administrative means at our disposal to address this particular incident and to reach these important institutional goals.

      • please verify the first story too,the person who posted here did not give the link either, what a pity. Thanks anyway.
    • In a January 2001 press release, the Tommy Hilfiger company denies that their founder ever made such a statement:
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛"The facts remain simple and cannot be disputed. Tommy Hilfiger did not make the alleged comments, he has never appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and, in fact, Ms. Winfrey herself, on her January 11, 1999 program, stated Tommy Hilfiger has never been on her show nor has she ever met him.

"Most importantly, Tommy Hilfiger wants his clothing to be enjoyed by people of all backgrounds and his collections are put together with the broadest cross-section of individuals in mind. To reinforce this, he features models of all ethnic backgrounds in his fashion shows and advertisements."

So pervasive is this rumor that, by 2004, the company had set aside an entire section on their corporate web site to deny it, featuring statements from Hilfiger, Winfrey, the Anti-Defamation League and Hilfiger customers.

Tommy Hilfiger is not the first or last famous person to be falsely accused of publicly telling certain ethnic groups to not buy their products. Liz Claiborne, Lauren Hill and Shakira all stand accused. None of the accusations stand up to scrutiny. Some are based on misunderstandings, while others, like the one above, are complete fabrications built on favorite elements of urban legendry. Break this Chain.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
