渥太华,富人多阿,Rockcliffe Park,是总督府后院吧~我没记错的话~ ZT ZT ZT

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Daniel Bellemare, one of the brothers behind the Farm Boy chain, is restoring a mansion for himself in Rockcliffe Park. He's renovating and expanding a century-old house at 390 Buena Vista Road. It will probably cost at least $5 million and is a nice change from recent trends to demolish old Rockcliffe houses and replace them with new ones. Bellemare, who is unmarried, says he has found newly quarried Quebec limestone that matches the original stone.

How ironic! The second most expensive house ever purchased in Ottawa is now the home of socialist Libya's ambassador to Canada. Libya paid $7 million for the house at 2 Crescent Road. It was formerly the home of prominent Rockcliffe couple Michel and Diana Bedos. The sale last year escaped public notice. Sales agent Marilyn Wilsonconsiders the price more startling than the $8.25 million paid several years ago for the Lansdowne Road mansion built by technology magician Antoine Paquin. Paquin's property was much bigger.

Investment advisor Eric Sprott and his wife, Vizma, give away millions annually. So much that Sprott says he "would not want to venture a guess" at how much he has donated to charity. Over the years, he has given more than $22 million to two Ottawa institutions-over $15 million to Carleton University, where he was voted most likely to succeed, and $7 million to the Ottawa Hospital. And he doesn't even live here! Among Ottawans, retired technology pioneer Jozef Straus perhaps comes closest in his philanthropy. The latest out-of-towner to outshine the locals is industry tycoon and U of O alumnus Paul Desmarais Sr. with a recent donation of $15 million to the University of Ottawa. The Desmarais Building is scheduled for completion next fall.

Writer Phil Jenkins, 55, is working on his sixth book. He says he's "ghost-writing" it in the first person. The book, expected on bookstands next fall, is the story of George Mercer Dawson, head of Canada's Geological Survey, who died in 1901. Jenkins, who loves to write about Canada and its people, found many letters written by Dawson in the archives of McGill University.

Back to Rockcliffe, where the latest monster house is taking shape at 688 Manor Avenue. The house, with a copper roof, dwarts houses around it It's owned by Sean Murray, an executive of Ottawa real estate developer Sakto Corp., and his wife, Jamilah Taib. member of a rich Malaysian family. The house will likely be among the four largest in Rockcliffe, jockeying for position with those of Marlen and Michael Cowpland, Michael Potter, and Philip and Beata Garel-Jones.

There was no bidding war-but one unlucky loser-when out-of-town couple Brian and Catherine Peters agreed to pay the full price of $2.99 million for a six-bedroom house at 408 Buena Vista Road on the day it was offered at that price. Another would-be buyer had been about to make an offer. It was the second highest sale on multiple listing this year, just behind the $3.06 million that retired Canada Post executive Philippe Lemay got for his home at 303 Acacia Avenue.

Marilyn Wilson, gueen of Rockcliffe real estate, engineered one of her biggest deals ever with that recent land swap between the United States and Michael Potter, it was her idea and enabled John Dtekson, number two in the U.S. Embassy, to move in next door to the ambassador while giving Potter extra land, which he has converted into a playground for his three children.

Jean Piqott, the heart and soul of the city, has moved to a retirement home with her husband, Arthur. Both are in their 80s, and she has been slowed by a stroke. But the former head of the National Capital Commission vows to continue her activism.

Margaret Trudeau-Kemper, who disclosed in May that she has struggled for years with the mental illness bipolar disorder, has looked fantastic when seen around town recently. She's "happily single," a friend reports, after two failed marriages and other friendships that didn't work out.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
